Google doodle celebrates Disney artist’s 100th birthday

Mountain View, CA, United States (AHN) – Her name may not be familiar, but her paintings certainly are. And on Friday, Google honored Mary Blair, the Disney artist who helped shape childhood memories for countless individuals, with a colorful Google doodle.

Blair, of McAlester, OK, would have celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday, The artist rose to notoriety drawing concept art for numerous Disney productions, including such classic films as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Cinderella.

Animated historian John Canemaker, author of “The Art and Flair of Mary Blair,” said of the painter, “Her vibrant colors and stylized designs pervade Disney animated films from 1943 to 1953. Beneath her deceptively simple style, lies enormous visual sophistication and craftsmanship in everything from color choices to compositions.”

As is the case with many Google doodles, Friday’s doodle pays homage to someone whose work is remembered well, even if the name is not.
