The show’s founder, producer, and featured designer, Andres Aquino stated that regardless of the current fashions “you should wear what makes you look good.” Two days before the show, Andres came up with the idea of incorporating African bead work into his journey around the world of fashion. Using necklaces provided by Nasimiyu’s Jewelery, he draped an assortment of beads around the neck of a model, hanging low enough to cover her bareness and draping the customary fabric wrap skirt around her hips. Her ethnic queenliness bearing native face paint was accompanied by two bare-chested, wraparound-fabric- wearing guardsmen, who carried her on their shoulders to a designated point and then set her down to continue bestowing her loyal subjects with blessings. Andres always kept the crowd riveted with the moods he created as he presented his many-faceted designs.
All of the designers featured ladies fashions except for Australian fashion designer Cristina Nitopi, who presented her luxury menswear collection. Briefly before the show, Shawn Sutton of Red Model Management-NYC, stopped by to say hello. Although this Brooklyn native is only a year into the industry, his chinky-eyes and androgynous bone structure carried the elegant white blazer, dark colored jeans, and red boots very well. A Nitopi-clad man never looked better. All of the excitement this past weekend has left many exhausted and looking forward to September’s events. Newer news items:
