New York, NY - This marked Ms. Patel’s third appearance at the prestigious New York Couture Fashion Week. Her show started off with a moving tribute to New York City by Cellist Gjilberta Gelaj.

Each colourful creation consists of complex craftsmanship and an eye for attention to detail. Sparkling Swarovski crystals and Kardana diamonds adorn luxurious silk and georgette fabrics. Amazing see-through net cut-outs reveal delicate handcrafted lingerie pieces which accentuate the sensuality of each peace. Each gown radiates energy with playful crystals that dance among diamond embroidery as if suspended in air. For a touch of drama, skin is seductively revealed through skillfully placed net cut-outs.

With the coming of spring, you think of blooming flowers in an awaking garden. I would compare that to Patel’s collection. Beautiful assortment of brilliant colors, in shades of orange, green, exuberant reds, and pale yellow, it was like a garden of tall exotic flowers. Gowns featured iridescent crystals and nets enhanced with glittering diamonds.

Characterized by undeniable workmanship, the Spring 2010 collection from Sushma Patel is at once distinctive, alluring and, above all, magnificent.

After her studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Sushma Patel went on to show her first collection in her native India in 1998. Since then she has done fashion shows across the USA including the Bollywood Fashion & Music Awards in 2006 and 2007. She has also presented her designs at Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica and at the Fashion TV Summer Festival in Romania.

Ms. Patel’s designs are a unique and stunning fusion of Indo-Western culture. They are characterized by impeccable craftsmanship and quality and an inventive approach to cut, draping and the use of luxurious fabrics such as jorjut, sufan, kangiwaram and various silks. Extraordinary designs are embellished with hand embroidery and crystals. Ms. Patel is one of the few prominent designers in India to incorporate traditional embroidery, fabric printing and weaving crafts into her thoroughly contemporary creations.

Sushma Patel’s designs are meticulously handcrafted in India and sold at her own boutiques in Atlanta, in the United States and in Mumbai, India, as well as at a number of upscale boutiques in India and other countries.
