Couture Fashion Week New York was delivered with an air of brilliant arrogance that only red hot fashion could sustain.

Friday’s events showcased several fantastic designers, most notably, Nedret Taciroglu (Turkey).   Her thirty piece collection infusing delicate fabrics from ivory to chocolate with splashes of ruby and coral took us through the decadent ages of times past.  The entire weekend sustained this momentum including a silent auction to benefit the Worldwide Children’s Foundation of New York and intricate art displays organized by art Director Nanati Taylor.

The sophomoric collection from Katerina Bocci (Albania/USA) featuring a stable of Michigan based models  wearing goddess inspired hair and stomping the runway in ruffled collar gowns of  gleaming green, silvery taupe, and graduating shades of navy with pops of yellow about the neckline.  The designer also featured diamond white  pieces with lattice detailing  and rhinestone embellishment at hemline.  The evening wrapped with a collection entitled Muses and Nymphs from the esteemed publisher and producer himself, Mr.  Andres Aquino (USA).  Muses and Nymphs was populated with prints and African themed music.  Models adorned with earthy hair wearing nature inspired colors, transformed into whimsical patterns punctuated with colored sequins and pastel colored garments were juxtaposed for ultimate muse impact.

Laurie Elyse (USA) delivered a spin on Vivian Westwood-esque attire using uber-slim to full figured models  with tousled updos  and gathered fabrics of chambray and denim.

Sushma Patel (India/USA) followed with a take off the traditional saris using gossamer fabrics of cream and ivory with rhinestone detailing about the bust line, mid section and hem.

Christine Nitopi (Australia) used urban music as the backdrop to a twenty-six piece evening collection celebrating leather pieces for men and vibrant hued dresses for women coupled with muted detailed fabrics.

Romanitza (Romania) delighted the crowd with shimmering fabrics that skimmed the contures of the body  effortlessly and had the same brilliance of moonlight on water.  The collections concluded with Indashio (USA).  The designer used lightly hued paper-mache clad models with bed head hair and colorful chapeaus to display his vision of the urban jungle and take us full throttle in Spring 2009.

Among the models was America’s Next Top Model winner cycle eight Jaslene Gonzalez, who closed the show with a constellation style smile and supermodel swagger. Tough and elegant, chic and charming, heartfelt and playful are only a few of the terms that sum up Couture Fashion Week New York
