Starting from the Dream’s debut, it has been their trend to come out strong and die somewhere between the end of the 3rd quarter and the beginning of the 4th. Tonight it was the complete opposite.

Disappointingly, tonight’s game against the Chicago Sky, for the most part, felt as though a high school’s junior varsity team was playing it.

At half time the stats showed that both teams were on fairly equal playing fields and had a chance to win but for the Dream, Betty Lennox’s performance was hurting them. However, the pressure should not be all on her. Coach Meadors attested to this during a brief media session. She feels that the team is entirely to blame because someone should have stepped up to pick up her “slack.” When asked what went wrong in tonight’s game Tamera Young said “We had too many shooting fouls giving them second chance opportunities… got out-rebounded... we did not box out… we just lacked small hustle plays that we needed.”

We have to let this game go, learn from it and get ready to play them again tomorrow.

After halftime it seemed as though the Dream’s luck was changing when Lennox came out and landed 2 consecutive jump shots followed by 2 free throws. To top the excitement Latta lands a 3-point shot to further narrow the Sky’s lead. According to Young, this motivation came from the half-time speech. Coach Meadors enforced to the girls that they needed this win and the way to achieve this goal would be to step up the energy and intensity. Coach Meadors also stressed the fact that they had to be aggressive with defense and actively go after rebounds and loose balls. Unfortunately, like every game prior, the Dream could not quite get in winning mode.

Hopefully Saturday’s away game against the Sky will flourish better results for the Dream. At the end of the night, Latta said to a commentator, “We have to let this game go, learn from it and get ready to play them again tomorrow.” With that being said, hopefully they can give their fans something to shout about.
