Evacuees at Kabul airport

The Taliban has ousted Ashraf Ghani, the 72 year old former President. Some nations, including Russia are considering recognizing the Taliban as an official government. After President Joe Biden continued the withdrawal of American troops from the previous administration, the country started to almost immediately fall under Taliban control. The United States did not expect the fall to happen so quickly.

There are 6,000 troops at the Kabul airport providing security for evacuees. U.S. troops have been in Afghanistan for over 20 years, which has come to an abrupt end.
