There has been an uproar of protests in and around the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHOP). We can get an idea about how CHOP and the police department are handling the situation from this morning’s protests.
It’s easy to understand why the protesters are upset over the way the police departments have handled this protest. The police have cleared the first set of protesters, and they’ve blocked traffic onto the main street, which means they’re now blocking the entrance to the Chinatown District. This is bad news for local businesses as they realize the protesters are now blocking traffic and parking around the strip mall.
More protests are expected to break out in CHOP, and more merchants will have to experience interruptions from the protests. Imagine the financial losses if the police force is still clearing protesters during traditional business hours. The streets will be closed, and there may be serious transportation problems.
