This is after the officers involved in Walker&#8217;s killing were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a lawyer representing the family of Jayland Walker, the 25-year-old was shot by police as he turned his back to them during the June 27 incident in Akron, Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials will release the body camera footage of the incident. Officers reported that Walker fired a gun from his vehicle during an early morning traffic stop, from which he fled but was fatally shot in a nearby parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police said in a statement released after the incident that they perceived a deadly threat in the suspect&#8217;s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/news.ftcpublications.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tymeca-Cohen-Justice-for-Jayland.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.ftcpublications.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tymeca-Cohen-Justice-for-Jayland.jpg 980w, https:\/\/news.ftcpublications.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tymeca-Cohen-Justice-for-Jayland-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.ftcpublications.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tymeca-Cohen-Justice-for-Jayland-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.ftcpublications.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tymeca-Cohen-Justice-for-Jayland-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Bobby DiCello, a lawyer who represented Walker, said that there could have been 90 shots fired at him. However, he pointed out that a single bullet can cause multiple wounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the lawyer, his team had not seen evidence that Walker fired at the officers before reviewing the body camera footage of the killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday, small protests were held in Akron over the death, compared to several recent high-profile police killings of Black men across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walker&#8217;s aunt, Lajuana Walker-Dawkins, told reporters on Friday: &#8220;Jayland was a sweet young man, he never caused trouble.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Akron mayor and police chief will update the incident on Sunday.
