Honoring its 30th year\nas China\u2019s great icon of athletics, Li-Ning forges forward for Autumn\/Winter\n2020, proposing a new meld of sportswear and tailoring and past and future\u2014a\nhybrid look with multiple reference points that remain in continuous dialogue.\nThe collection originates in an image of Mr. Li, the brand\u2019s founder and an\nOlympic gold medalist in his own right, wearing a suit at last season\u2019s runway\nshow. The vision of a champion athlete in relaxed tailoring inspires Li-Ning\u2019s\napproach: applying techniques of classical tailoring to iconic, sport-derived\nstyles, seen through an aesthetic lens of future-past. This range of apparel,\nfootwear, and accessories is a product of Li-Ning\u2019s three-decades-long quest to\ndefine a wardrobe for tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brand\u2019s 30th anniversary sets into motion a far-reaching series of new collaborations and associations within the worlds of fashion and contemporary art, the latter\nof which is represented in Li-Ning\u2019s three-year patronage, beginning in January\n2020, of Paris\u2019 re- nowned cultural institution the Centre Pompidou<\/strong>. With a focus on live performance, the program\nseeks to crystallize the partners\u2019 shared belief in the unifying nature of\nexperience and the power of art in creating\nexchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Li-Ning\u2019s Autumn\/Winter 2020 show inaugurates the partnership on January\n18th, 2020, utilizing\nthe venue\u2019s sprawling galleries to reveal this special anniversary collection.\nFor the show, Li-Ning creates the effect of a shifting 3-D urban landscape\u2014the\nPompidou illuminated in a matrix-like grid constructed of scaffolding, neon,\npixelated LED screens, and monitors displaying 8-bit content remi- niscent of \u201980s video\ngames along side various vintage\nvideo footage. The games and videos play, glitch, and \u201cbreak down\u201d\nthen loop again, highlighting\nthe season\u2019s innate clash between lo-fi and hi-fi. Guests including Jackie Chan, Mr. Li Ning, Dwyane Wade,\nGabrielle Union, Stefano Pilati, MJ Harper, <\/strong>and Honey Dijon <\/strong>took in this epic display, in which models walked the\nPompidou to a roughly collaged soundtrack that flickered between underground\ndance music, new wave hits, and ambient sounds of city bustling streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quickly expanding its world of associates, Li-Ning arrives at the\nAutumn\/Winter 2020 show having just launched collaborations with the menswear\ndesigner Neil Barrett<\/strong>, at Milan\nMen\u2019s Fashion Week, and Stefano Pilati\u2019s\nRandom Identities<\/strong>, at Pitti Uomo. The show today opens with a preview of\nyet another partnership: a design collaboration with the iconic martial artist\nand actor Jackie Chan<\/strong>.
